The Carrier Spring Tool is used to give the retention springs of the Q-DC Carriers a deeper set. The result is lighter spring retention and easier removal of shotgun shells. The “sweet spot” of retention is based around Federal Flight Control ammunition as it is the most widely used defensive round. Note that even with the use of this tool, some shells still still be tighter than others. Cheaper birdshot, for example, oftentimes will have a flare around the crimp. This is simply the nature of shotgun ammunition as the specs are quite broad.
